About Neurotypical Nonsense
There is a base expectation that we will understand the world around us and the world within us. While this is a lifelong journey, the often vague and unclear nature of the path can mean that some neurodiverse people get lost along the way.
Neurotypical Nonsense is the expectation that individuals will understand the meaning of unclear words, phrases or concepts without explicit explanation. It is also the assumption that neurodiverse people should conform to the expectations of the neurotypical world.
The objective of this website is to clarify Neurotypical Nonsense so that neurodiverse and neurotypical people can understand and support one another better.
We follow the mantra Be Yourself, Be Better.
We provide clarity by using the Neurodiversity Support Framework:
- Explain the relevance or importance of the topic.
- Explicitly teach the topic.
- Practice skills in a safe environment.
- Generalise the skills across different environments.
